Exhibitor Spotlight: Genius Lab Gear

Visit Genius Lab Gear at The Advanced Materials Show, Booth 630.

What advanced materials do you specialize in?

The fabric in our lab coats has to be felt in-person. The Lab Coat Project crowdsourced the design from over 1000 scientists’ feedback and the fabric went through 6 iterations until we found the perfect balance of being rugged yet soft and cool to the touch. It also repels splashes of water when you’re cleaning glassware or at the grinding wheel, and the fiber morphology was mechanically modified to allow stains to lift more easily.

Please explain the benefits of your speciality.

Most lab coats just aren’t that great, and if they have plastic buttons, open sleeves, or polyester content they can be downright dangerous. Every pocket, snap, zipper, and loop on our new lab coats were designed for the user experience to keep you organized, efficient, and fully covered. The data-driven design approach helped us create the ultimate lab coat for materials research.

Are there any exciting developments that are happening within the industry or your company that you can share with us?

We’ve been developing the first maternity lab coat – which doesn’t exist, so that expecting mothers can continue their research for as long as they feel comfortable. It will be ready to ship in November. We’ll also be showcasing our new “dark matter” black version of our best-selling crowdfunded lab coats.

If attendees should know one thing about your company, what would it be?

The founder is a Materials Engineer, so everything is designed with that experience in mind. From nanomaterials to polymer synthetic and microscopy, the tools we have solve problems that Derek encountered in his graduate and professional work in the industry.

What will you be showcasing at your booth at The Advanced Materials Show?

The Lab Coat Project’s crowdfunded 100% cotton lab coat design, in the original white and our brand new black version. Anyone who tries one on is entered to win a free lab coat. We’ll also have our new STEM Pocket tools – perfect to use as a scale bar for small samples with a periodic table reference and tons of unit conversions for quick calculations.

Who are you hoping to meet at The Advanced Materials Show?

Scientists and engineers who do lab work, especially in metallurgy, ceramics processing and polymer synthesis.

What are you most looking forward to at The Advanced Materials Show?

Seeing old friends! The founder, Derek Miller, has presented research at MS&T many times but hasn’t attended in several years.
