Position summary
The Director of Marketing and Business Development is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive market growth strategy that drives revenue expansion for our advanced materials and chemical products in the solar, battery, and semiconductor industries. The Director will lead all marketing initiatives and work closely with the business development team to identify new opportunities and define clear, differentiated value propositions for our products. This hybrid role will also be instrumental in supporting the VP of Business Development by developing the customer pipeline through opportunity screening, customer engagement, and account support. This role is an integral part of the team responsible for driving a long-term pipeline of new business development and client relationship management. This is a strategic role requiring a deep understanding of the advanced materials landscape and the ability to influence both technical and business audiences. Core responsibilities
Strategic planning and market intelligence
• Develop and implement a strategic business development plan to identify and pursue new opportunities within the specialty chemicals and materials businesses.
• Support pricing strategy, cost models and stage gate processes.
• Provide market and economic analysis of industry trends, customer needs, and competitive activity to inform business strategy; particularly in next-generation solar materials, advanced battery chemistries, and semiconductor manufacturing processes.
• Work with technical and commercial teams to define product roadmaps and strategic goals based on market analysis.
Marketing leadership
• Oversee all marketing activities, including website content, technical collateral, product datasheets, and thought leadership pieces like white papers and technical presentations.
• Create compelling messaging and value propositions for our advanced material products, targeting specific customer segments within the solar, battery, and semiconductor markets.
• Manage relationships with external marketing vendors and third-party agencies.
Business development and sales enablement
• Work with the commercial team to ensure successful development and execution of go-to-market strategies, including identifying growth opportunities and supporting content.
• Support business development by providing strategic guidance, market validation, and high-impact content for customer engagement and presentations.
• Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and customer meetings to increase visibility and generate qualified leads.
• Support the negotiation and closing of deals with new customers by providing strategic insight and market data.
Collaboration and people management
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including engineering, R&D, product management, to develop and implement business development initiatives in a cross-functional, matrix environment.
• Provide regular reports and updates to senior management and the VP of Business Development on marketing performance, market insights, and new opportunities.
Location Requirements
• Preference for being within close proximity Boston, MA. International locations like EU and Asia may be considered. R&D, Engineering and manufacturing for the products and services provided by Nano-C will be primarily based out of Boston area in the US. Frequent travel to this site, and others, may be required depending on current strategic initiatives at the time.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (e.g., Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Applied Sciences) or equivalent work experience required; MBA is highly desirable.
• A strong foundation in chemistry, chemical engineering, coating, or nanomaterials is highly desirable.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in global marketing and business development, with at least 3 years in a leadership role or as a strong individual contributor.
• Demonstrated understanding of complex value-added / consultative selling is highly valued.
• Proven experience developing and executing successful growth strategies within technical B2B markets; ideally in advanced materials.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the advanced materials landscape, industry value chains, and relevant market dynamics.
• Experience in product development and stage gate processes highly valued.
• Ability to travel 25%+ domestically and internationally at different times of the year.
• Multi-lingual a plus.
